Following a week of viral videos featuring the "Chewbacca Mask Lady," demand has exploded for the item to the point that Chewbacca masks like the one featured in her original video are now going for absurd amounts of money on eBay.

The masks, with a list price of $31.99, are going for as much as $500 on the popular online auction site. They're being offered for sale for amounts ranging from $80 to over $1,000 -- but the highest selling price seems to be $499, per MSNBC, while dozens have sold in the $100 range.

The original viral video, posted by Candace Payne on Facebook, has almost 150 million views since it was posted on Thursday. The clip features Payne laughing hysterically in her car while testing out a mask she purchased at Kohl's, who managed to prolong the story yesterday by bringing Payne's family armfuls of Star Wars merchandise. All in all, it's been a publicity bonanza for Kohl's, whose own video has more than 31 million views on Facebook.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens hasn't always had the easiest road as a merchandising line; there were protestations and online shame campaigns after Rey, a central character in the film, was underrepresented in toys and on clothing. Chewbacca, who returns to the franchise in the film, will next be seen in Star Wars Episode VIII, which is filming now.

Hasbro will likely get those Chewbacca masks back in production and on store shelves soon, to capitalize on the viral nature of the story, but anyone wanting immediate satisfaction is going to have to pay for it.
